teachers are very special, experienced educators chosen for their ability to
inspire kids. We look
for people who are warm, playful and absolutely great with kids, who
also have intensely creative minds and a contagious passion for
science, tech and invention.
MS.
PEGGY: Director of Curriculum Development & Teacher.
Peggy Spear has a B.S. in Biological Sciences Education from the
University of New Orleans. Ms. Peggy taught high school science
classes for four years, then became involved in elementary school
science programs as a parent and volunteer. This led to nine
exciting years at the Dupage Children's Museum in
Naperville, Illinois, where she lead science and math workshops and
developed curriculum funded by the National Science Foundation and
the Illinois State Board of Education Center for Science Literacy. Now Ms. Peggy brings her love of science and
discovery to work each day at the Curiosity Zone!
Who is your
favorite scientist? "My favorite scientist is Sir Isaac
Newton."
What is your
favorite animal? "The whale!"
Why do you love
teaching science? "I like the 'Wow, that was so cool' moments
you get from students when teaching science."
MS.
SUSANNE: Teacher. Susanne
Whitehouse has a B.S. in psychology and special education from James
Madison University where she also studied biology and geology. She
received her M.Ed. in severe disabilities from George Mason
University.
Ms. Susanne taught for nine years as a special education teacher at
an elementary school in Reston where she also taught science lessons
after school. Ms. Susanne worked for over ten summers at Reston Day
Camp as a counselor, art teacher and Director. After staying home
with her two children, she is happy to be back teaching again!
What is your favorite animal? "The Dolphin."
What do you love about teaching kids and science? "A child's
natural curiosity is contagious for me. Their sense of wonder in
everything reminds me to take nothing for granted and get curious
about the world around me."
