CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

DINOSAUR ISLAND

Can you survive on an island full of dinosaurs and solve the mystery of the hidden treasure? Learn how dinosaurs lived; dig for fossils; learn hieroglyphics and codes; create clay pots; build a solar oven; invent seashell gadgets; explore ancient civilizations; navigate by the stars; read animal tracks; hunt for hidden treasure and lots more! Kids will adopt a pet dinosaur to care for while on the island.

Educational value: creative thinking, design, geology, paleontology, physics, life sciences, astronomy and chemistry.

Take homes: pet dinosaur + adventure gear to continue exploring all summer.

All-day Campers: Survivor Island camp activities PLUS field trips to: 1) Reston Zoo, 2) Great Country Farms, 3) Broadlands Nature Center, 4) Trailside Park and 5) Ida Lee Park.

Half-Day  /  Full-Day  /  before/after Child-Care

JR. INVENTORS/KID BIZ

Start a pretend (or real!) business this summer while learning how scientists create toys, bath products, pet treats and yummy food products. This camp will emphasize creativity and “playing store” for younger campers and business concepts for older campers.  Sign up w/ friends to start a neighborhood company!

Educational value: creative thinking, design, teamwork, chemistry, physics, math, economics.

Take homes: materials to start a business/play store at home.

  • Jr. Inventors (ages 4-6)  Make your own toy, bath, pet and food products, name them, package them and play store!  We will also learn a skit and “jingle” for the grand opening of our store on graduation day!

  • Kid Biz (ages 6-10)  Work in teams to invent a product and start your own business. Create a name/tagline, logo, business cards, fliers and signs.  Design packaging and produce product samples. Write and act out a commercial.  Design and build your own storefront, then sell your product on graduation day!  

Educational value: creative thinking, design, teamwork, chemistry, physics, math, economics. 

Take homes:  materials to start a business/play store at home. 

All-day Campers: Inventor/Biz camp activities PLUS field trips to: 1) tour businesses at Dulles Town Center Mall, 2) Fun Bounce, 3) Great Country Farms, 4) Ida Lee Park and 5) Trailside Park.

LEGO ENGINEERS

Design and build your own city, then make a movie! Learn to build your own spaceships, bridges, boats, buildings, robots and other cool inventions using Legos™ and other building materials. Kids will work together to solve design challenges each day as we create an entire city on Mars. We will then write stories about what happens in our city and create a stop-action Lego animation to premiere on the last day of camp!

Educational value: creative thinking, design, teamwork, engineering, physics, math.

Take homes: building materials to continue inventing at home.

All-day Campers: Lego Engineers camp activities PLUS field trips to: 1) Udvar-Hazy Museum, 2) Laser Tag, 3) Great Country Farms, 4) Ida Lee Park and 5) Trailside Park.
