EXPERIMENTS:  Test Tube Volcano

Drop about ½ teaspoon of baking soda in the bottom of the test tube. Now pour in lemon juice or vinegar (about a tablespoon) and see what happens! Try putting your thumb – or a balloon! -- over the top and shaking it. What’s happening: a base (baking soda) and an acid (lemon juice/vinegar) are reacting and producing a gas (CO2 – this is also what we humans exhale). This is chemistry!

(You can do this experiment in any container without a lid.)
